Coca-Cola Advert // Inspiration

As annoying as YouTube adverts can be, they are not always a nuisance. While wanting to listen to our chosen song Emily and I came across this advert for Coca Cola. This follows the same concept as what we were thinking of doing in terms of having everything done in point of view of someone.

There are also other aspects I like in this advert, for example the beginning. I like the black and white effect and how natural it is with just people walking around as I think it gives a relatable edge. 

Wankelmut - My Head's A Jungle // Inspiration

I really like this music video!! I think the concept works well with the song. I particularly like the 'two worlds' aspect of the usual launderette compared with her vision of the party vibe which goes perfectly with the meaning of the song as her 'head is a jungle'.
 In addition to this i also like how the 10 pence piece is the motif and I thought the idea of having her playing with the 10p before she entered also helped the video make sense to the audience. It is also the reason that everyone in the shop joins in as the shot reverse shots suggest.

Furthermore, the muffled sound and the wide shot of the launderette with her dancing allows the audience to see how she doesn't fit with the surroundings which shows that her 'head is a jungle'. 

The concept flows with the rythm of the music as the fast/ up beat parts are the parts with the party atmosphere and the more slow/soft parts are the usual launderette which I feel works really well. 

Codes and Conventions

Our chosen song is part of the alternative  genre so I thought it was important to look at the codes and conventions of this genre. 

Here is some of the things I found and will be taking into consideration when we come to story board. 

Chvrches - Gun // Inspiration

The music video to this alternative genre song I thought had unique editing and some has some features and techniques that we could put into our music video. This fits into the genre of our song therefore we are able to take some inspiration from it more freely.

The features that I liked especially was the kaleidoscope style and the overlapping of the frames. It fits with the beat of the song perfectly and I think it gives a cool effect that is very watchable. I would like to try incorporate these features into our music video to give an edgy element conforming to our genre. 

Concept (4)

The song Riptide, that we originally liked the video concept of, we really like the actual song aswell. We thought the beat was good for editing.

Whilst brainstorming some ideas we came up with having the video focused on a girl with a mental illness such as bipolar. We wanted to have the video through the perspective of her boyfriend like the Duke Demont- I Got U video. The video will consist of showing the girl having fun with her boyfriend and being happy to a sudden switch to being distant and angry. 

We wanted to emphasise the struggle of watching somebody that you love not being able to control their actions. I think it will be better if this is slightly ambiguous as it will encourage our audience to re-watch the video.

For locations we pictured it by the seaside to show how an average 'date' in the relationship would pan out and how difficult it is for the boy.

After looking at all 4 of the ideas that we had we think this is the one that we think will work best and what we will most enjoy making!

My group and I wanted our music video to have a correlation between the lyrics and the visuals therefore an important step to our research and planning is to analyse the lyrics. 

From looking at the lyrics closely it became evident that the song was about a couple breaking up 'and they come unstuck' and themes of unrequited love show through with 'i wanna be your left hand man' suggesting that he wants to marry her but she doesn't.

We've looked at other interpretations of the lyrics from google, also. 

I found these interpretations interesting and i think it will be a big help with creating a concept for the music video itself.
